Welcome to two exhibition openings on Tuesday April 4th from 5-7 PM.
In Laterna Magica's Tile and Cellar galleries the exhibition by Jyrki Sinisalo and Mari Vallemaa OMNIA MEA MECUM PORTO -All that is mine I carry with me consists of light art, installations and collages.Sinisalo and Vallemaa describe their process: "We both utilize recycled materials in our works. The name of the exhibition is an allusion to the materials "Omnia mea mecum porto - All that is mine I carry with me. Even though the premise of our work is similar, the results are often quite different. Our aim is to create visually interesting and surprising combinations and through our work engage in discussions on the possibilities that art might have in commenting on contemporary phenomena. Our exhibtition consists of light art, collages and installations in the broad sense."
In the Book Gallery space we have photography by Edith Södergran (1892-1923) in an exhibition Maailma on minun - The World is Mine. Edith Södergran (1892 –1923) was a Swedish-speaking Finnish poet, one of the first modernists within Swedish-language literature and loved by generations of readers. 2023 marks 100 years since her death at the age of 31. She published four collections of poetry in her lifetime but gained wider recognition after her death. She is less well-known for her photographic work, which was significant in its own right. Agneta Rahikainen and Eira Sillanpää have collected Södergran's poetry and photography into a book and an exhibition, which bears the name Maailma on minun - The World is Mine. The book comes out in two languages, Edith Södergrans mother-tongue Swedish and in translation in Finnish.
