The works in the Marras exhibition blur the border between life and death, which at this time of year is blurred anyway. A down-to-earth welcome to the opening of the exhibition on Tuesday 22 October 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m! We encourage the public to dress with a seriousness appropriate to the November theme and season. Dress code: funeral, macabre, haunting, compost and the like.

Exhibition opening on Tuesday October 22nd from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Warm welcome! Juha Kaila's exhibition of mokuhanga - Japanese style woodcuts presents works which have been inspired by Finnish and Japanese nature.

"I make sculptures on the trunks of living trees with the natural clay I dig from the forest. I look for a suitable place and tree for the work. The themes of my sculptures are related to nature. The subjects are Finnish mythological characters and the second skin. I call my works process art.Documenting the work through photography and videography is an integral part of the overall process." Photos taken by renowned documentary film-makers Anastasia Lapsuyi and Markku Lehmuskallio are on display in the exhibition in Laterna Magica's Book Gallery. What they both have in common is that they are not photographers. The photos were taken while working on movies. A photograph captures a blink of the eye in the flow of time. The Landscape of Green and Grey explores the West of Ireland, the coastal landscape and its people. The exhibition pictures series were taken in the counties of Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Donegal and Clare between 2022 and 2024. The series consists of black-and-white fine art photography prints, printed by the artist.

Raimo Puustinen (b. 27.5.1935 Käkisalmi, d. 8.12.2008 Espoo) who owned a studio on Meritullinkatu in Kruununhaka, was a painter, printmaker and draftsman. He considered himself above all a draftsman. A pencil was his favorite tool. In September Puustinen's works will be exhibited as a posthumous sales exhibition in Laterna Magica's Book Gallery space.

Through Four Trick Pony, Pia Andell and Mina Laamo investigate what happens if you try and snap out of the story? What are the alternative ways of telling about the world? Four Trick Pony is a documentary installation based on an organic algorithm. Exhibition opening on the Night of the Arts, August 15th, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Takuyo Kawachi will present two traditional japanese art forms for this exhibition. One is Sumi-e, Japanese monochrome ink painting and the other one is Kiri-e, a japanese form of paper cuts. Exhibition opening on the Night of the Arts, August 15th, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The exhibition Echoes from Afar includes textile sculptures, clothing fragments and studies, and cyanotypes on canvas. The works are visual explorations into the questions of existence. Jana Výborná-Turunen reflects on her own cultural identity in the course of generations, in relation to time and place, social phenomena, herself and others. An exhibition focusing on black-and-white images selected from Hannes Heikura's (1958-2015) Helsinki trilogy will take place in Laterna Magica's galleries at the end of July 2024. The exhibition opens on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Mira-Veera Auer's photo exhibition will take place in Laterna Magica's Book Gallery space in July. "A glimpse of a Human" deals with and reflects on the complex mind, self-esteem and contradictions of a person. Meet the artist on the last day of the exhibition, on July 20th, from 1-3 p.m.

The Knot in Time project started with an accidental discovery by artists from Savonlinna: hundreds of old glass negatives, some buried in the ground, were lying in the basement of a dilapidated house known as Solmun talo, the Knot. The artists behind the project are Lauri Ainala, Sini Kosonen, Juho Liukkonen and Ville Erkki Tarke. Meet the artists on the last day of the exhibition, on July 20th, from 1-3 p.m.

Tarja Turpeinen's exhibition in the Book Gallery presents a selection of artist's books and pictures which reflect on the concept of books and artist's books themselves. Opening on Tuesday May 7th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Warm welcome!
