In September, artist Raimo Puustinen's works will be exhibited as a posthumous sales exhibition in Laterna Magica's Book Gallery space. Exhibition consists of works from the late artist's production depicting important places in his life.
Raimo Puustinen (b. 27.5.1935 Käkisalmi, d. 8.12.2008 Espoo) who owned a studio on Meritullinkatu in Kruununhaka, was a painter, printmaker and draftsman. He considered himself above all a draftsman. A pencil was his favorite tool. Many remember Raimo's precisely atmospheric drawings, for example, from the pages of Rautatie written by Juhani Aho. Later there was also success in the illustration competition of Väinö Linna's Täällä Pohjantähden alla, Under the North Star.
Puustinen's work was steeped in colour when he made stained glass paintings, such as Fuuga Savonia for the Lapinlahti municipal hall in Savo in 1983, Jakob's ladder for the Kauniainen church in 1985 and a stained glass painting called Ilosanoma for Joensuu Rantakylä church in 1990.
Raimo also made graphics, watercolor, oil, pastel and charcoal works inspired by Finland's beautiful national landscapes, the northern light and the people close to him. The artist and his family spent a lot of their free time in places such as Hailuoto, Väisälänmäki in Lapinlahti and Vuonislahti in the mountainous landscapes of Koli. The works created during these times are colored by a special warmth.
Raimo also captured moments and landscapes by photographing and writing scripts about, among other things, a trip to Baffin Island. There he got to know the Inuit culture with his friend ,film-maker Markku Lehmuskallio.
Raimo Puustinen's works can be found in numerous private collections Similarly, Puustinen's works are a part of the Ateneum Art Museum collection, among others.
