An exhibition focusing on black-and-white images selected from Hannes Heikura's (1958-2015) Helsinki trilogy will take place in Laterna Magica's galleries at the end of July 2024. The exhibition opens on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Heikura worked mainly for Helsingin Sanomat and as freelance from 2010. He was awarded Press Photographer of the Year several times. He received Photo Finlandia in 2008.

In his last years, Hannes Heikura delved into depicting loneliness in the center of Helsinki, in metro stations and buses, as well as in the city's concrete and glass jungles.Those pictures formed in the end the Helsinki Trilogy of works, which consists of books Dark Zone (Musta Taide, 2010), We Walk Alone (Musta Taide, 2013) ja End of the Road (Like, 2015). Many of the pictures have reflections, strange ones too. The environment in the images; Helsinki and the Kamppi district is not easily recognisable, but the pictures could be from anywhere.

The theme of loneliness that unites the images is already mentioned by Heikura in the preface to his book Dark Zone in 2010: "Behind everything, loneliness was found. A terrible feeling of loneliness in the middle of an open landscape, but which is covered by the familiar homeliness of the city. The Dark Zone was born, an area through which I walk every day, but which I had never been before seen. The zone I had lived in all my life. Loneliness. The dark zone."
