Exhibition opening on the Night of the Arts, August 15th, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Japanese born artis, based in Finland, Takuyo Kawachi will present two types of art for this exhibition. One is Sumi-e, and the other one is Kiri-e.
Sumi-e also known as suiboku-ga, is Japanese monochrome ink painting or “ink wash painting". This is very traditional painting style from 14th century, and the modern artists still get inspired today. The essence of ink painting is putting on the paper the fewest possible lines and tones, just enough to cause form, texture and effect to be felt.
Kiri-e is a Japanese word, means cutting cutting (painting). It is also very long history art form in japan, It is said to have developed after 610 AD.
Takuyo Kawachi will put a modern twist on these traditional art styles, combining them with visuals from Finnish environment.
