Exhibition opening on the Night of the Arts, August 15th, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The exhibition Echoes from Afar includes textile sculptures, clothing fragments and studies, and cyanotypes on canvas. The works are visual explorations to the ultimate questions of existence. Jana Výborná-Turunen reflects on her own cultural identity in the course of generations, in relation to time and place, social phenomena, herself and others.
The artist conducts a discussion based on these themes using old objects of his family, pieces of clothing, meaningful materials and many different techniques. The materials and techniques used have a special status and symbolic meaning in the visual narrative. The memory, content and message they bring changes its form in new contexts in an always new way. The techniques used are sewing, frame weaving, cyanotype, traditional Czech technique called blue printing, laser engraving on fabric and plywood, and the combinations of the above.
